Call of Duty 4’s Original Creator Told Infinity Ward To Not Mess Up The Remaster

Except he said it more eloquently.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a modern classic. The game was a titan and behemoth of its genre, and its influence over first person shooters, and over video games at large, continues to be felt even today, almost ten years later. So of course, when it comes to a remaster of such an iconic game – and that is what Activision plan on releasing later this year – then a lot of people will be nervous about whether or not the modernization will be respectful of the source material.

One of the people who wants the remaster to not mess up the original is Vance Zampella. Zampella is one of the two primary creators of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare– he worked there until 2009, when, in the wake of Modern Warfare 2‘s release, he ended up leaving Activision in a blaze of publicity (and a bunch of lawsuits and counter-lawsuits), forming Respawn, where he went on to create Titanfall.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Zampella was candid on his response to the announcement of Modern Warfare Remastered. “I told them – don’t f*** it up,” he laughed. “That’s my on the record response. I rang them up and said, honestly, don’t f*** it up. It’s a huge part of people’s gaming memories.”
Which is, honestly, as good a way as someone will find to express the general sentiment for this remaster- Modern Warfare is an iconic game, and an entire generation grew up on it. Activision and Infinity Ward better not f*** it up. Modern Warfare Remastered and Infinite Warfare will both release in November this year on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
