What a surprise.

For like, the umpteenth time in the history of all things football (that’s soccer for our American readers), Lionel Messi will be the cover star for EA Sports’ FIFA franchise this year, as it has been confirmed that he will be the cover star for FIFA 16 when it releases a few months from now.

We also have the standard edition global cover art for the game now, officially confirmed, which you can see above- it’s Messi, all right, and the cover photograph is also pretty standard. I don’t exactly know what you were expecting, though, if you expected it to be anything but standard.

Messi is not going to be the only cover athlete, though. Others might join him, based on the territory the game is being marketed in. The other cover stars joining Leo Messi on specific country covers will be announced on July 10th – after FIFA 16 Cover Vote ends.

FIFA 16 will be out later this year, on every system imaginable to mankind, except Wii U. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage and information.
