There have been a few rumblings of a potential Final Fantasy 16 reveal these past few months, and it would seem that the announcement might be happening sooner rather than later. Over on ResetEra, insider Navtra – who has in the past accurately leaked insider information and has been verified by the forum’s moderators as a credible source of insider info – suggests that Final Fantasy 16 is “closer than most people would think.”

In a forum post, they also added that the game has “some kind of” exclusivity with the PS5 now- most likely as a timed exclusive for the console. Considering the fact that Square Enix have several such deals in place with Sony – from Final Fantasy 7 Remake to Project Athia to DLC for Marvel’s Avengers – that might not be too hard to believe.

Apparently, Final Fantasy 16 was initially supposed to be revealed at the PS5 reveal event in June, but was moved last minute. In a subsequent post in the thread, they added that the game is actually “in a much more showable state” than Project Athia, which makes its reveal having been delayed instead of Athia’s that much more surprising.

As for when Final Fantasy 16 might finally be unveiled, that remains to be seen. A State of Play show is confirmed for August 6, but Sony have confirmed that they will be making no PS5 announcements there. That said, PS5 news is tentatively set to be shared later this month, so perhaps we’ll hear more about Final Fantasy 16 soon. Several reports of late have remarked that Sony has plenty more unannounced third party exclusives, and Final Fantasy 16 would certainly fit that description. Either way, we’ll keep you updated, so stay tuned.
