Final Fantasy 16 Developer Will “Work on the PC Version Carefully” After PS5 Launch

Although producer Naoki Yoshida has previously said that it's unlikely to release for the platform as soon as its 6-month PS5 exclusivity window is up.

Pretty much since the day it was announced, there’s been some back and forth on whether or not Final Fantasy 16 is going to come to PC. The action RPG’s reveal trailer back in 2020 initially confirmed it as a PS5 and PC title, only for all mentions of the latter to be completely removed later on. Later, it emerged, that the game had a 6-month timed exclusivity deal with Sony for the PS5.

But though the assumption for many was that Final Fantasy 16 would be releasing for PC half a year after its PS5 release, earlier this year, producer Naoki Yoshida quashed that speculation, and said that though Square Enix was definitely interested in doing a PC version, properly optimizing the port would take much longer than just six months.

In a recent interview with Japanese outlet ASCII, Yoshida has once again briefly touched on the PC version, confirming that once Final Fantasy 16 is out for the PS5, the development team will start working on a PC port “carefully”.

“We also plan to work on the development of the PC version carefully after the release,” he said.

Yoshida also stated that though there are currently no plans for post-launch DLC, it’s something that Square Enix will “consider” if the base game is well-received. Read more on that through here.

Final Fantasy 16 is due out for PS5 on June 22. A demo will arrive shortly before launch- it will be roughly a couple of hours long and will allow players to carry over their progress into the full game.
