Horizon: Zero Dawn Is A ‘Vast Opportunity,’ Says Developer

"Ultimately if it doesn’t work, all our jobs are on the line to some degree."

One of the most promising games in the stable of Sony’s upcoming games, and one of the most promising upcoming games in general, appears to be Horizon: Zero Dawn, the open world action RPG by Guerrilla Games that looks unlike anything else in PlayStation’s first party stable. With Sony evidently putting all their marketing muscle behind the game, pushing it as their next big title, surely, the pressure is on on Guerrilla to deliver with a product that lives up to expectations, right?

In an interview with Game Informer, Art Director Jan-Bart van Beek, who originally pitched Horizon to begin with, noted how their jobs were on the line to some degree were Horizon to not work out.

“We’re lucky the company has this sort of brave aspect to it, that they’re willing to do. Ultimately if it doesn’t work, all our jobs are on the line to some degree,” he said.

However, Guerrilla in general appears to view Horizon, and the chance to work on it, as an opportunity more than anything else. “When you get a chance within an organization like PlayStation, when you’re offered the opportunity to build something that is this radically different and that’s a large triple A project… I mean, who gets the opportunity to work on this with a lot more than a hundred people, from scratch? I see it as a vast opportunity and one that we shouldn’t mess up,” said Managing Director Hermen Hulst.

It is a opportunity, and it is one that I hope sees them rise to the occasion. I like everything I have seen of Horizon so far- and I can’t wait to get my hands on the final game when it releases exclusively on PS4 Pro in February.
