Though this "doesn’t necessarily mean that every game now will come to PC," as per SIE Worldwide Studios head Hermen Hulst.

For the past several months, rumours have been floating around that Guerrilla Games and Sony’s excellent 2017 open world PS4 title Horizon: Zero Dawn will soon be making its way to PC – a bit of an unprecedented move for them as a publisher – and now they have officially confirmed that that is indeed the case.

Speaking in an interview published on the official PlayStation blog, SIE Worldwide Studios boss Hermen Hulst confirmed that the game is indeed coming to PC in Summer of this year, and that more details on the release will be coming at a later date.

“I can confirm that Horizon: Zero Dawn is coming to PC this summer,” Hulst said. “There will be more information coming from Guerrilla, from the new studio directors [Michiel van der Leeuw, JB van Beek, and Angie Smets] pretty soon.”

Hulst says that Horizon: Zero Dawn’s PC release signifies how Sony is staying open to “new ideas” of introducing a larger playerbase to PlayStation properties.

“I think it’s important that we stay open to new ideas of how to introduce more people to PlayStation, and show people maybe what they’ve been missing out on,” he said.

In light of the Horizon: Zero Dawn PC rumours in recent months, there’s also been a lot of talk about what this move means for Sony as a publisher, with reports suggesting that they’ll be releasing their first party exclusives on PC with greater frequency going forward (Dreams is a name that keeps coming up in such conversations).

However, according to Hulst, Horizon: Zero Dawn’s PC launch isn’t representative of any shift in their strategy or any plans they have for other games in the future. He says Sony’s focus will continue to be on delivering exclusive PlayStation content, and that Horizon was “just a great fit in this particular instance”, before stating that they have no plans for simultaneous launches on PC of their upcoming major first party titles.

“To maybe put a few minds at ease, releasing one first-party AAA title to PC doesn’t necessarily mean that every game now will come to PC,” he said. “In my mind, Horizon: Zero Dawn was just a great fit in this particular instance. We don’t have plans for day and date [PC releases], and we remain 100% committed to dedicated hardware.”

Horizon: Zero Dawn is currently available on PS4, and is out on PC this Summer.
