Mortal Kombat 1 – Leaked Switch Footage Shows Screen Tearing, Performance Issues

Copies of Mortal Kombat 1 appear to be out in a wild, and one Reddit user has leaked about two minutes of the Switch version's footage.

Even though Mortal Kombat 11 saw a simultaneous launch on the Nintendo Switch, the fact that the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 will be following suit has come as a bit of a surprise to many, not least because the reboot is not going to be a cross-gen title on PlayStation and Xbox. Naturally, questions have been asked frequently about how the fighter’s Switch port – which is being handled by Shiver Entertainment and Saber Interactive – will fare.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be taking promising shape. A Reddit user has managed to get a copy of Mortal Kombat 1’s Switch version a couple of weeks ahead of launch and has uploaded an off-screen recording of the story mode’s first couple of minutes (which we have seen previously). That footage shows some major issues, with very noticeable screen tearing and surprisingly significant frame rate drops popping up consistently and prominently throughout the two minutes.

“I have an early copy, I would avoid on switch as the performance isn’t up to par for a $70 title,” the leaker wrote. “Lots of lag whenever there is a lot of screen movement. This strange persistent screen glitch that tears the middle of the screen, is the most jarring thing.”

Of course, with the game still a couple of weeks away from launch, there’s a chance that some of these issues are addressed ahead of release- that’s the hope, anyway.

Meanwhile, the Reddit user has also leaked Mortal Kombat 1’s full roster of main fighters and Kameo characters.

Mortal Kombat 1 is due out on September 19 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
