Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth built upon the turn-based role-playing foundations laid down by Yakuza: Like a Dragon in incredible ways, but it looks like the series’ next outing might take another unexpected turn rather than building on a familiar gameplay framework.

That’s as per developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio itself, which recently dropped a tease for the next Like a Dragon title. Speaking about the series’ next game at the recent Essence of Fandom event at Anime Expo, the developer said (via VGC), “We can’t tell you what kind of game it is, but I will tell you, you’ll be surprised.”

The studio did not elaborate on whether it was speaking about the next mainline instalment in the franchise, or a spinoff similar of Like a Dragon: Ishin! or Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio confirmed earlier in the year that work was underway on the next Like a Dragon game, while series director Masayoshi Yokoyama has also said that the developer will “definitely” be making Like a Dragon Kiwami 3 “sooner or later”.
