Sony Has Started R&D On Its Next Generation System

But the PS4 just came out...

This generation barely feels like it has gotten off the ground yet (and some would argue that it actually hasn’t), but we are already starting to hear rumblings of what comes beyond these consoles. We already know that Nintendo’s next generation system, the mysterious NX, is deep in development, but it appears they are not the only company working hard on new hardware- even the leader of this generation, Sony, has apparently started R&D for a next generation system.

How do we know this? We know this because of a new career opportunity ad posted by Sony Computer Entertainment, seeking a Senior Game Programmer. Specifically, they need ‘a senior game programmer to assist [them] in developing a game used for R&D purposes related to [them] next generation gaming system.’

So, yes, here we have it. A PS5 is coming, and work on it has either already started, or is starting soon. Hpw do you feel about this?

Personally, I think this is the right thing to do. Last generation was an aberration in how long it lasted, and especially given how dated all three of these consoles already are next to the wider context of available technology, I wouldn’t mind a full hardware refresh some time soon.
