Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Director Says “Stealth Doesn’t Really Fit Into This Game”

It's all about the Force (and your lightsaber, of course).

Playing as a Jedi who’s on the run while he’s being hunted down by an entire Galactic empire, you’d expect Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to feature some elements of stealthing and sleuthing- but that’s not going to be the case. Recently, while speaking with IGN, developers Respawn Entertainment’s Stig Asmussen, who’s serving as the upcoming action-adventure’s game director, confirmed that Fallen Order won’t have any stealth.

According to Asmussen, the encounters in the game will be all about the combat, about assessing your enemies and choosing which way to approach the situation, with multiple combat styles and opportunities being available to the player at any given time.

“I’ve heard that from a couple people and I can understand why, but no, stealth isn’t something that we’re featuring in the game,” said Asmussen. “You can jump into a situation and negotiate the battle the way that you want. There’s a lot of choice in how you come across your enemies and take them down.”

Asmussen further added that players could, if they wanted, find ways to be able to not catch the enemy AI’s attention, but while that’s “technically possible”, the emphasis of the game will be on letting players use their lightsabers and Force powers to live out their Jedi fantasies.

“You could potentially, if you wanted, sneak around and not get the AI’s attention,” he said. “I guess that’s technically possible. It’s not something we’re openly encouraging. We want the player to have fun and the power fantasy of having a lightsaber and Force powers and stealth doesn’t really fit into that or this game.”

Though we haven’t seen any gameplay footage yet, the game’s combat itself is something we’ve heard quite a lot of over the last couple of days- you can get more details on it through here. Meanwhile, if you’re more interested in the game’s story, make sure to read more about its protagonist, and watch it story trailer.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is out later this year, on November 15, for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
