Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – BD-1’s Binocular Mode Will Allow Players to Put Beacons on the Map

From the addition of fast travel to human dismemberment spicing up the combat, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is making a number of smaller-scale improvements to its predecessor’s foundations on top of its many larger-scale improvement. Many of these are geared directly towards making exploration more compelling – which makes sense, given the fact that this is a Metroidvania game – and another one of these has also been detailed by Respawn Entertainment.

In a recent interview with Wccftech, design director Jeff Magers confirmed that Jedi: Survivor will allow players to use BD-1’s new “binocular mode” that will let you place beacons on points of interest in the world. Similar to how placing markers functions in something like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, these beacons will then be visible on your map as well, in addition to being visible when using BD-1’s binocular mode.

“One of the new features is BD-1’s binocular mode,” Magers said. “With that, you can put a point in the world through the binoculars or through the map and they’ll talk to each other. So if you put a beacon through the binoculars, they’ll show up on the map and vice versa.”

Several other improvements to exploration have also been revealed for the upcoming Star Wars sequel up to this point, including new traversal abilities, the aforementioned fast travel, being able to ride mounts, and more. Given Jedi: Survivor’s bigger maps and longer runtime, it should be interesting to see how much of an impact these changes will have on the experience.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is due out for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on April 28.
