Last night, Bethesda closed their E3 presser with Todd Howard giving us a glimpse of what lies in the future for Bethesda Game Studios, the beloved developer of the Elder Scrolls and Fallout RPG franchises. And what lies beyond? Starfield, a brand new science fiction IP from the developer, and The Elder Scrolls 6– with both being defined as “next generation efforts”.

But development on them may be farther along than you would have thought, at least for Starfield. The game has been in development for a long time, and already exists in a playable state, Todd Howard confirmed in an interview with Geoff Keighley. On the other hand, The Elder Scroll 6 is in a pre-production state, and is not playable in any form whatsoever- so yeah, that one is a while away, it seems.

Howard also confirmed that Fallout 76 has the largest development team from Bethesda ever working on it, and that the game will in fact allow mods, but just not at launch. So you can stop worrying about that now.

Fallout 76 launches November 14 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Starfield does not have a release date or target platforms. The Elder Scrolls VI does not either, except we know it will come after Starfield.
