Starfield isn’t due out for another few months (barring more delays), which means there’s a great deal yet that we still don’t know about Bethesda’s upcoming space-faring RPG. New details have been filtering through in bits and pieces though, and more tidbits on its gameplay have recently emerged as well.

Speaking recently on the Lex Fridman podcast, game director Todd Howard revealed new nuggets of information on Starfield, and confirmed a number of details. For instance, it’s been confirmed that the different star systems in the game will all of levels attached to them, which means players will find quests of varying difficulty and challenge levels in different locations.

Meanwhile, where space travel is concerned, Howard says that though the development team has gone back and forth on how grounded and dangerous it wants spaceflight to feel, players won’t have to be worried about getting stranded in space without any fuel, since that, according to Bethesda, is a “fun-killer”.

Outside of your spaceship, while you’re on the surface of Starfield’s many different planets and are walking about, depending on which of the game’s many different environment suits you have equipped, you will react differently to things such as temperature, gases, toxicity, and more- all of which will, of course, depend on which planet you’re on.

During the interview, Howard also spoke about Starfield’s Xbox console exclusivity has benefited the game’s development, while also touching on The Elder Scrolls 6and what stage of development the RPG is currently in. You can watch the full podcast episode below.

Starfield is due out in the first half of 2023 for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
