Wii, Wii U, and DS Websites Taken Down By Nintendo

Nintendo continues to retcon Wii U out of history.

It looks like the Wii, DS, and Wii U’s slow deaths continue. Nintendo has taken down the Wii, Wii U, and Nintendo DS channels from its official website. This includes WiiWare and DSiWare as well. Basically, all you get when you go to their site is Switch and 3DS—attempt to go to the pre-existing links for Wii, Wii U, and DS, and you get greeted with a 404 error.

The appalling lack of website archiving aside, this is yet another nail in these systems’ coffins. Now, to be fair, the DS is 15 years old, and the Wii is 14 years old—those systems being retired and removed from a site interested in selling current products makes total sense. But the Wii U’s accelerated demise remains as amusing as it is despairing.

Given the Switch’s general success—it has sold over 34 million units as of the latest update from Nintendo—we should see it supported by Nintendo for a while to come, unlike the Wii U. And at the very least, if you own a Wii, DS, or Wii U, Nintendo’s site still offers support and repairs for them.
