Xbox boss Phil Spencer has hinted that the Xbox Series X/S consoles, as well as Xbox Game Pass, might see a price increase down the line. Speaking at WSJ Live, Spencer stated that, while it was important to maintain the current price of its products, the company may not be able to do it forever.

“I do think at some point we’ll have to raise the prices on certain things, but going into this holiday we thought it was important to maintain the prices,” Spencer said.

“We’ve held price on our console, we’ve held price on games, and our subscription,” said Spencer. “I don’t think we’ll be able to do that forever. I do think at some point we’ll have to raise some prices on certain things.”

While there have been no concrete announcements by Microsoft about potential price hikes for its consoles, games, or subscription, it is quite likely that first-party Xbox games might be some of the first things to be more expensive. Recently, however, Microsoft said that as far as its near-future plans were concerned, a price hike for Xbox Series X/S wasn’t on the cards.

This echoes Sony’s move of having PS5 games sold at a base price of $69.99, and more recently, raising the price of the console in certain regions.
