PARIS, November 14 — European regulators have opened an investigation into Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the biggest takeover in video game history.

The deal announced in January capped a string of successful takeovers that left four major players still standing in an industry estimated at US$300 billion (RM1.38 trillion).

Tencent: world number one

China-based Tencent is the biggest player in the market by revenue.

It is a major player in the Asian market and has invested in game studios outside of its home country.

The company owns Riot Games, creator of the battle royale hit League of Legendsand holds stakes in French video game stars Ubisoft and Activision.

It also acquired the Finnish studio Supercell (clash of clans, Clash Royale, brawl stars) in 2016 for US$8.6 billion – a record at the time.

Sony: the champion of the PlayStation

Japanese consumer electronics colossus Sony has sold more than 500 million copies of its PlayStation since 1994.

Through a subsidiary, it controls a host of studios – including Insomniac and Housemarque – which have developed exclusive titles for its machines such as the Spider Man saga.

The recent acquisition of Bungie, the creators of Halo and Fatefor US$3.6 billion, will strengthen its games portfolio — even if Halo still owned by Microsoft.

Sony has also invested in Epic Games, the company behind Fortnite.

Microsoft: New big spender

The American giant launched in January the biggest acquisition in the history of the sector with its offer to buy Activision Blizzard for 69 billion dollars.

The deal would put major titles such as Call of Duty, World of Warcraft and Diablo.

But regulators in the European Union and Britain have now opened investigations into the deal.

The group behind Xbox consoles already controls major game titles like Minecraft, old scrolls and To fall through previous acquisitions.

And he now aims to become the Netflix of video games with its Game Pass online platform that allows users to download games or play them via the cloud.

Nintendo: home games

Based on self-taught sagas such as mario, Zelda Where PokemonNintendo sets itself apart from its competitors by staying away from the industry’s acquisition frenzy.

The March 2020 release of his game Animal Crossing: New Horizons has become a social phenomenon, as the Covid-19 pandemic has triggered a global shift towards indoor lifestyles.

The Independents

Several prominent publishers have so far remained out of the hands of the giants, but could become targets in the near future.

American manufacturer Take-Two is a heavyweight in its own right, its stable filled with popular games including Grand Theft Auto, NBA 2K and Red Dead Redemption.

And he played the acquisition game himself, spending $12.7 billion to acquire mobile game developer Zynga, creator of the farming simulation FarmCity.

North Carolina-based Epic Games saw its valuation soar to nearly $29 billion last year after a round of funding from investors including Sony.

Electronic Arts had $5.6 billion in revenue last year and also has a portfolio of popular licenses such as Fifa, Battlefield and The Sims.

The French company Ubisoft (Assassin’s Creed, Far cry) is valued at around six billion euros and is also a major player in the sector. —AFP

One of the best horror franchises has been given a new lease of life in gaming, with Evil Dead: The Game now ready to hit digital shelves as a freebie.

The video game adaptation of Sam Raimi’s beloved horror-comedy series saw average to positive reviews when it launched in May 2022, but may now see a massive potential resurgence thanks to the Epic Games Store. Thanks to the store’s dedication to providing free games to users, you can now kill an army of deadites for free.

Evil Dead: The Game will be free to download from November 17-24, giving you another chance to jump into the game and experience it properly if you weren’t part of the initial wave. The game features many returning actors, with Bruce Campbell returning to his legendary role as Ash Williams.

The characters available to play cover the first three films and the Ash vs Evil Dead series, with none yet available as of the 2013 remake. The asymmetrical multiplayer game relies heavily on your team’s synergy and ability to communicate, also with several single-player missions that help you get more skins.

It’s not the first evil Dead game, and I hope it’s not the last. But if you’re there Saber, please get a voucher LOSS– running style story based on army of darkness. This is what the fans need. Hopefully with free play, the masses will come back and help the studio bring the game back up.

Evil Dead: The Game is available on PlayStation, Xbox and PC.

Earlier this year, Tyson Bulter-Boschma, a game developer based in Melbourne, Australia, released an impressive free demo on itch.io showing what an open-world Superman video game could look like. Her YouTube video (below) has gone viral, with over 3.7 million views.

Creative Director/Founder of Toybox Games Studios, Tyson took to Twitter (under his @TJATOMICA account) accusing Hero Game Studios of stealing his Superman demo and uploading it to Steam where they charge people to download the demo, when he released the game on itch.io for free earlier in the year.

Bulter-Boschma wrote, “Someone put up my Superman and Steam demo and is selling it as a full price game! I did this for the fun of showing what could be done! It’s a scam! The demo is free on Itch! Thanks for retweeting and reporting this shit!”

Someone set up my Superman demo and is selling it as a full price game!!!
I did this for the fun of showing what could be done!

It’s a scam! The demo is free on Itch!
Thanks for retweeting and reporting this shit! @DCComics @valvesoftware https://t.co/IpuC6qceo3

— Tyson Butler-Boschma (@TJATOMICA) November 2, 2022

Hero Game Studios, which charges people to download the same demo, claimed that Tyson was a former employee who stole the game from them:

“Our game is not stolen. One of the former developers of our user team TJ ATOMICA left our team a long time ago, but now he claims that the whole project belongs to him. But that’s completely wrong. The rights to the game and the development process are entirely ours. The reason he did this is because the sales were growing pretty fast. He thinks he can make money from it.

Answer

Who should you believe? It’s worth noting that while this isn’t exactly a Superman game, neither Tyson Bulter-Boschma nor Hero Game Studios own the rights to Superman, so the debate over legal ownership of the demo will rage.

Scene from the video game “Norco”.

A Norco native and former student of Destrehan High School had a dream when the video game he created showcasing his hometown, norco, was released to critical acclaim. He didn’t know this was just the beginning.

The game, which was available for Windows PC and MacOS on Steam, PC Game Pass and GOG.com, went mainstream: it was released as a digital download for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox X/S and Xbox 1 consoles on October 20, giving it much greater visibility and reach for players around the world. It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass.

The world players can explore in is technically an alternate version of the Norco that the locals of St. Charles Parish are familiar with. “Alternative”, in many areas of the game, is quite close to “exact”, and not just in the game’s namesake. The game takes players through areas very recognizable to locals, such as Apple Street and Airline Highway in the game’s namesake, but also areas in New Orleans, Metairie, and Kenner – the Esplanade Mall, though not named, is a notable landmark in the latter. like the “Promenade Mall”.

“People are reaching out and talking about the landscapes they recognize in the game,” said Norco game creator Yuts. “It gets rather weird towards the end and it’s quite interesting to hear them talk about it as well. But it’s a short game. The learning curve is very shallow and I think it’s a quick and easy way to generate conversations and interactions with people.”

It all started nearly 15 years ago. Yuts (a pseudonym derived from a nickname of his grandfather), now 36, said the genesis actually stemmed from a “world history project” with a close friend. After Hurricane Katrina, the two were doing archival research on different Louisiana industries. Thanks to this, the two have recorded many conversations with locals about their life and the region in which they live.

“We took a lot of inspiration from that,” Yuts said. “We were shooting videos, writing essays, experimenting with different mediums. So, I know how to code a little. And I created a little side-scrolling game in JavaScript. It ended up being the stepping stone.

For many residents of St. Charles Parish, the topics covered by the game will undoubtedly be relevant. Floods and environmental precariousness are among the issues addressed.

“For a lot of people, these are things that have affected them deeply,” Yuts said. “People have written personal responses that are extremely moving. And it’s something that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Norco was released on Steam in March to rave reviews from gaming critics. The Los Angeles Times called it the best video game released in early 2022, and the game continues to gain momentum as it finds a wider audience. It earned scores of 9.25 out of 10 from Game Informer and 94 out of 100 from PC Gamer. In 2021, before its official release, the game won the first Tribeca Games Award at the Tribeca Film Festival. In 2022, Norco won the Long Feature award at the Berlin A MAZE festival.

“We really appreciated the welcome,” Yuts said. “We have heard so many good things. It’s a pretty niche genre, but it seems like more and more people are playing it, more people than I expected. And a lot of locals played as well, which was great to hear.

Ross Chastain reached the NASCAR title race by stepping out of a video game.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Ross Chastain’s aggressive style hasn’t made many friends in NASCAR’s top series. Now he will fight for a championship because of this approach.

Chastain pinned his Chevrolet against the outside wall of the 0.526-mile Martinsville Speedway and was cruising about 70 mph faster than the rest of the field, dropping from 10th to fifth on the final lap to give Trackhouse Racing its first appearance at the championship.

Christopher Bell earned his place in the NASCAR championship race while Chastain used a move more adapted for a video game to also advance into Sunday’s thrilling regular season finale.

Chastain credited his video game for the dramatic last-lap move.

“Oh, I played a lot of NASCAR 2005 on GameCube with (younger brother) Chad growing up,” he said. “You can get away with it. I never knew if it would actually work.

“I mean, I did it when I was eight. I took fifth gear, asked two on the last lap if we needed it, and we did it. I couldn’t tell who was leading. I made the choice, I grabbed fifth gear in the back. Fully engaged. Basically let go of the steering wheel, hoping I didn’t catch the access door to the turn four or something crazy. But I was ready to do it.

Bell needed to win to qualify for the final four next week at Phoenix Raceway and he managed to give Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota a place in the final. Bell also won at the Charlotte Motor Speedway road course in the final race of the second round of the playoffs, so he’s now twice advanced with wins.

But this victory was different.

“Man, I say this all the time, but the driver is just a small piece of the puzzle for these races,” Bell said. “The reason this car won today is because it was the best car on the circuit. Adam Stevens, Tyler William, that whole group of 20, they never give up. When we’re back on the wall, it looks like it’s over, they show up and give me the fastest car here.

“I don’t know, man. Words can’t describe this feeling.”

The final four drivers in the Cup Series winner’s final are Bell, Joey Logano, Chase Elliott and Chastain, who beat championship foe Denny Hamlin with his spectacular last-lap run.

Hamlin, though disappointed, was impressed.

“Great move. Brilliant. Definitely a great move,” he said of Chastain’s tactics. “When you have no other choice, it’s certainly easy to do. But executed well,” he said.

Bell passed Chase Briscoe, who also needed to win to qualify for the championship, with five laps to go to earn the automatic spot in the championship chase. It was Bell who was caught in Bubba Wallace’s retaliation against Kyle Larson in Las Vegas and Bell recovered in that crash dropping him to the last of eight pilots.

He knew ever since that it would take a victory for Bell to compete for his first Cup title, and he pulled it off at NASCAR’s oldest track.

Many video games feature their own lore and legends, but fan-made Creepypastas expand the reach of horror games and even unassuming titles with stories that often bring their hauntings back to the real world. Video games are full of disturbing events, and everything from creepy characters to jarring glitches can lead players to cook up ghost stories disturbing enough to become internet legend. Apart scary horror gameseven the most innocent titles can produce Creepypastas that are downright nightmares, providing players with plenty of content to keep them awake this Halloween.

VIDEO OF THE DAY

Like many urban myths and legends, Creepypastas tend to be word-of-mouth stories written to be read as if they could have happened in real life. These horror stories are usually short which makes it easy for readers to copy, paste and share them on different forum sites and threads. Some popular Creepypastas will even grow into a vast collaborative tradition as fans post their own stories and creations inspired by these terrifying folk tales on the internet.

Video games are a great source of inspiration for Creepypastas – whether it’s a horror title or a relaxing time cooperative game to play with children – blending digital horror and creative folklore to evoke the fear that follows the player into the real world long after the game has stopped. The medium creates the perfect space to inspire these types of tales and urban legends, and many games lend themselves to a shareable experience in which the player asks their friends if they have also seen this strange thing happen. Creepypastas have in turn inspired tons of scary video games, giving gamers a digital playground of pure terrors to dig into whenever they need a good scare.

Slender Man is one of the Internet’s most notorious Creepypastas

While many video game fans may know Slender Man from Thin: the eight pagesThe Slender Man Creepypasta originated from a meme originally created for the Something Awful forum in 2009. Slenderman appears as a tall, thin, faceless man in a neat black suit who is “always watch” although he has no eyes. Slender Man even received a Among us mini game. Tales of this terror usually involve him stalking and abducting his victims, leaving them with trauma that often causes memory loss.

Slender Man quickly inspired several fan creations online, the most notable of which was the Marble Hornets series that aired on YouTube from 2009 to 2014. Slenderman’s growing popularity on the internet led to the release of Thin: the eight pages and Svelte: the arrival, which was instrumental in establishing her as a notorious pop culture icon soon after. Slender Man also inspired Minecraft‘s Endermen, though those block-stealing monsters don’t share his appreciation for eye contact.

Ben Drowned is a Classic Creepypasta Video Game

Majora’s Mask is already considered one of scariest games ever The Legend of Zelda series, but his infamous BEN Drowned Creepypasta takes his horror to a whole new level. The story began as a series of fictional posts uploaded by a college student who got a haunted Majora’s Mask cartridge from a garage sale. When starting the game for the first time, he discovered that the save file for someone named BEN had already been created.

However, the student’s game quickly took a terrible turn, as the mysterious BEN began to haunt him throughout the game itself. Each of BEN Drowned Creepypasta’s posts was incredibly detailed and included a video”evidenceof the many terrifying glitches that occurred throughout the game. Ultimately, the entity known as BEN manipulated the student into uploading it to the internet, setting in motion an ARG in three parties that only recently ended on Halloween 2020.

The SCP Foundation Collaborative Creepypasta Is Absolutely Massive

Before SCP became popular on Twitch, The SCP Foundation started out as a massive Creepypasta collaborative project featuring over 4,000 Wiki entries written by fans around the world. The overall premise of the story centers on the SCP Foundation, a secret society tasked with securing, containing, and protecting anomalies that defy the laws of physics. As such, articles on the SCP Wiki tend to be written in the form of scientific reports and journals that carefully document each anomaly.

Each anomaly is given a number in the SCP universe, which is then used to refer to it in Creepypasta’s plethora of content. While many of these anomalies are horrific creatures and violent entities that threaten human survival, others harmlessly defy natural laws. The SCP Foundation Wiki has inspired several novels, and some of the scariest horror games were based on or inspired by this massive Creepypasta project.

Pale Luna is a text nightmare

Like many good Creepypastas video games, Pale Luna began with a highly repeatable microfiction story about a text-based adventure game that led to the scene of an actual murder. According to the original post, a strange game titled pale moon had circulated among gamers and local developers in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1980s. While the game was extremely difficult and crashed whenever the player chose the wrong path, a competent player was able to beat it and reach the end of the game. His reward was a set of coordinates which, when located, led him to the body of a girl who had been murdered over a year prior.

Related: Clive Barker Horror Games You’ve Never Played Before

Despite the plethora of pale moon text adventure fan games that have been created since the original post began circulating online, the associated murder mystery is not a true story. Still, these Creepypasta-inspired text-based adventures provide enough thrills without an actual murder tied to the game’s true ending. pale moon content available online for horror fans to dig through this Halloween.

Sonic.exe created a scary Creepypasta Fanverse

sonic the hedgehog has inspired a seemingly endless amount of fan content over the years, but the Sonic.exe Creepypasta is certainly a contender for the most gruesome. According to the story of Creepypasta, a Sonic fan received a cursed disc from a friend who warned him to destroy it. Like a good Creepypasta protagonist, the fan started the disc anyway, causing the eldritch entity that was unlocked through Sonic character file to haunt him.

Although the original story of Sonic.exe Creepypasta might seem simple enough, the series of games and other fan-made content it inspired offer plenty of demonic features. Sonic gameplay for fans to enjoy. A rewrite of the original story was also uploaded in 2017, which confirmed that the malevolent character of Sonic.exe was intended to be an eldritch entity, as some Creepypasta fans had previously speculated. Fans even created a Sonic.exe mod for Sound originsallowing horror game players to download Creepypasta content directly into their own console still to haunt this Halloween.
