In a somewhat surprising move, Epic Games has just added the previously unnamed character from its Unreal Engine 5 demo to the Fortnite video game as a playable skin. Move over, Shang-Chi!
The character, now officially called the Windwalker Echo, has been slightly adapted to fit the overall Fortnite design aesthetic, but it generally looks a lot like the original design and is instantly recognizable to those who remember being impressed by the initial presentation. of Unreal Engine 5.
To celebrate the character’s arrival in Fortnite, a special short film starring Windwalker Echo called Slay has been produced by Mold3D Studio. It can be viewed below.
Epic Games is also encouraging Fortnite players and Unreal developers to share images featuring Echo (or inspired by her) on social media. Those creating images in Fortnite are encouraged to use the hashtag #Fortography on Twitter or the Fortography post style on r / FortNiteBR if they are using Reddit while Unreal developers can now upload Windwalker Echo assets to create their own animation and share it with the hashtag #UnrealEcho.
Windwalker Echo definitely made an impression with gamers and developers alike in May 2020 when Unreal Engine 5’s presentation went live, with many wondering if the character could appear in his own video game in the future. His addition to Fortnite and this social media campaign is definitely curious, and it will be interesting to see if this is the start of a bigger push for the character with a bigger project planned for the future.
The addition of Windwalker Echo isn’t the only big news from Fortnite this week. The final event for the end of Season 7 of Chapter 2 is set to begin in a few days at 4 p.m. ET on September 12, with Season 8 set to begin a few hours later.
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8 will bring a new Battle Pass to the game with a significant amount of new lore involving aliens and, if the leaks are true, the return of the mysterious cube from seasons past.
